    In part b, their answer was incorrect.

    (You do not automatically earn full credit for correct answers. You must also show correct work.)
  • The number of points for each item is near the marked item.
  • You will pick up your ungraded quizzes on Mon Oct 6.
  • Do your grading in red pen.
    Blue, black, pencil, highlighter etc. are not OK. 3 point service charge for using any of those.
  • Underline the parts of your work that match the marked work on the solution key,
    and next to them, write the number of points you earned on each part.
  • If some step(s) of your work is (are) different from the key, but (you think) still correct, put an asterisk * next to the points for that part, and come to office hours to defend your work and get the credit.
  • Write the number of points you earned for each question in the SCORE: area to the right of that question.
  • Write your total score for the quiz in the SCORE: area on the upper left corner of the front side of the quiz, just beneath the date.
    3 point service charge for not subtotalling or totalling the points.
  • If you have any questions about whether you should earn points for a different method, or for a single algebraic or arithmetic error, you must talk to me no later than Thu Oct 9.
  • Your graded quizzes are due in class on Fri Oct 10. If you do not resubmit the graded quizzes by that date, you will get 0 for the quiz.
  • You may also submit your graded quiz early.

    They decide not to argue for partial credit, and give themselves the credit for the correct parts.
    
  • In question 5, their work mostly matches the key, except they forgot to square the distance to the focus, which caused an error in one of the denominators.
    They feel they should earn partial credit for finding the distance to the focus, as well as setting up the numerator correctly, so they mark that slight error with an asterisk (*).
    
  • In question 6, their work mostly matches the key, except they used a different sequence of algebra to get the standard form of the equation.
    They feel they should earn credit for this alternate method, so they mark their steps with asterisks (*),
    
  • They will come talk to me in office hours to defend their work for more partial credit.
    
  • They fill in the subtotal for each question except the three they will defend.
    They will fill in those scores after they talk to me in office hours, and then they will fill in the total for the entire quiz.
