  • In question 3, they correctly arrive at an incorrectly written variation of the correct answer.
    They decide to give themselves no credit for it (although they really should come to office hours to defend their work for partial credit).

  • In question 4a, they perform correct (but unnecessary) algebra but arrive at the wrong final conclusion (because they forgot the domain of n).

    which resembles a step that appears on the grading key, but is not assigned any points,
    and they are missing the next step that appears on the grading key that is assigned 1 point.
    They feel they deserve partial credit for the equivalent step, so they mark that work with an asterisk.
    
  • All other parts of all other questions were correct.
    
  • They will come talk to me in office hours to defend their work for more partial credit.
    
  • They fill in the subtotal for each question except the one they will defend.
    They will fill in those scores after they talk to me in office hours, and then they will fill in the total for the entire quiz.

  Math 2A quiz 1 grading sample 2 (Incomplete - will defend work in office hours)
  
  Notice that in this sample,
  
  
  • They grade in red pen.
    
  • They underline the required parts of their solutions, and write the points next to them.
    
  • In question 4, they did not state the sign of their constant of proportionality as required.
    Also, they wrote 2 completely different DEs, one correct, one incorrect.
    They feel they should get credit for the correct DE, but do not know how to address the incorrect one, so they mark the incorrect DE with an asterisk.
    
  • All other parts of all other questions were correct.
    
  • They will come talk to me in office hours to defend their work for more partial credit.
    
  • They fill in the subtotal for each question except the one they will defend.
    They will fill in those scores after they talk to me in office hours, and then they will fill in the total for the entire quiz.
