  Notice that in this sample,
  
  
  • They grade in red pen.
    
  • They underline the required parts of their solutions, and write the points next to them.
    
  • In questions [1c] & [1d], they did not have the same simplified algebraic expression inside their limit as the grading key.
    
  • In question [3], they did not break down the limit using the limit laws in the same way as the grading key.
    
  • They give themselves credit for only the parts of all questions that matched the grading key,
    and choose not to defend their work for additional partial credit.
    
  • They fill in the subtotal for each question, and the subtotal for this part of quiz 1.
    They add their subtotals from the greensheet quiz & the calculator portion
    and write their total for the entire quiz in the appropriate space near the top of the quiz.
    
  • They could have earned more points
    if they had identified that several of their steps are equivalent to the grading key, just written differently
    (eg. factoring differently in [1c] and [1d], using a different limit law in [3]).
    If they had come to office hours to defend their work, they would have received 3.5 more points.

    In question [1c], they made a factoring error, but their next step after that was consistent with the error.
    They give themselves credit for the parts that matched the grading key,
    highlight the errors with asterisks,
    and will come to office hours to defend their work for additional partial credit.
    
  • In question [2], they wrote the limits of the bounding functions using more generic notation,
    instead of using the specific bounding functions they had found.
    They also forgot to cite the Squeeze Theorem as justification for their reasoning.
    They give themselves credit for the parts that matched the grading key,
    highlight the difference with asterisks,
    and will come to office hours to defend their work for additional partial credit.
    
  • All other highlighted items from the grading key were present in their work.
    
  • They will come talk to me in office hours to defend their work for more partial credit (at least 3 more points).
    
  • They fill in the subtotal for the question they will not defend, but not the ones they will defend.
    They will fill in those scores after they talk to me in office hours, and then they will fill in the total for the entire quiz.

  • Items marked (boxed, circled or underlined) in red are the correct answers or steps you needed to show to get credit.
    (You do not automatically earn full credit for correct answers. You must also show correct work.)
  • The number of points for each item is near the marked item.
  • You will pick up your ungraded quizzes on Thu Apr 19.
  • Do your grading in red pen.
    Blue, black, pencil, highlighter etc. are not OK. 3 point service charge for using any of those.
  • Underline the parts of your work that match the marked work on the solution key,
    and next to them, write the number of points you earned on each part.
  • If some step(s) of your work is (are) different from the key, but (you think) still correct,
    put an asterisk * next to the points for that part, and come to office hours to defend your work and get the credit.
  • Write the number of points you earned for each question in the SCORE: area to the right of that question.
  • Write your total score for the quiz in the SCORE: area on the upper left corner of the front side of the quiz, just beneath the date.
    3 point service charge for not subtotalling or totalling the points.
  • If you have any questions about whether you should earn points for a different method, or for a single algebraic or arithmetic error,
    you must talk to me no later than Tue Apr 24 @ 2:35pm.
  • Your graded quizzes are due in class on Wed Apr 25.
    If you do not resubmit the graded quizzes by that date, you will get 0 for the quiz.
  • You may also submit your graded quiz early.

  • They underline the required parts of their solutions, and write the points next to them.
    
  • In question [1a], they did not use the trapezoid area formula (although the final answer was correct).
    
  • In question [2a], they did not use the trapezoid area formula (although the final answer was correct).
    In question [2b], they did not know how to answer the question (although the units were correct).
    
  • In question [3], they split the integral correctly, but forgot the "dx" in each integral.
    They also forgot the area of the left triangle under the absolute value function.
    
  • In question [4], they started with the correct limit summation,
    but then they rewrote the summation in a different way from the grading key.
    They also had the wrong formula for the the summation of the -1's,
    which resulted in the wrong limit expression and the wrong final answer.
    
  • They give themselves credit for only the parts of all questions that matched the grading key,
    and choose not to defend their work for additional partial credit.
    
  • They fill in the subtotal for each question, and the subtotal for this part of quiz 1.
    They will fill in the total for the entire quiz after the graded greensheet quiz is returned to them.
    
  • They could have earned more points
    if they had identified that several of their steps are equivalent to the grading key, just written differently
    (eg. the areas of the trapezoids in [1a] and [2a], the function inside the summation and the limit in [4]).
    They could also have earned more points for recognizing that, despite their errors in [3] and [4],
    some of their work after those errors was consistent with the mistakes, and did not oversimplify the problem.
    If they had come to office hours to defend their work, they would have received 6 more points.
    Also, while they thought the missing "dx"'s weren't important,
    if they had come to office hours to discuss it, they would learn that that notation error can result in calculus errors starting in section 5.5, as well as points lost on midterms.

    but they recognize that it is equivalent, just factored (which is actually easier to work with).
    However, they did not rewrite the last limit expression in a way to justify their final answer.
    They give themselves credit for the parts that matched the grading key,
    highlight the alternate work with asterisks,
    and will come to office hours to defend their work for additional partial credit.
    
  • All other highlighted items from the grading key were present in their work.
    
  • They will come talk to me in office hours to defend their work for more partial credit (4 more points).
    
  • They fill in the subtotal for the two questions they will not defend, but not the ones they will defend.
    They will fill in those scores after they talk to me in office hours, and then they will fill in the total for the entire quiz.
