Physics 2A Lab Course Syllabus
Fall 2009

Lab attendance is mandatory.  If you miss more than one unexcused absence you are liable
for an instructor initiated drop.

You may not attend a lab session in which you are not enrolled without permission from the
instructor.

You must get permission from the instructor to leave the lab for the day.  You are not
finished with the lab unless the instructor says so.  If you leave without permission, that
may count as an unexcused absence.

The physics tech works very hard to ensure that we have all equipment in good working order.
Lab equipment should be carefully removed from the lab carts.  Please demonstrate respect
for the equipment and the laboratory classroom by replacing the equipment on the lab
cart exactly as you found it.

The laboratory exercises mostly follow the lecture material, though there are some experiments
which are a bit ahead of lecture.  In that case, the theory will be presented in lab prior
to the lecture.

All lab notebooks are kept in the classroom.  You may not take lab books home at any time before
the end of the quarter.  There are no exceptions.  Three of your lab write-ups will be graded.

The lab notebook should be neat and follow the format presented by the teacher.

Quizzes are given at the start of every lab.  Do not be late or your score on the quiz will be
zero.  There are no dropped quizzes in the lab.  They are based on either the previous week's lab
or pre-lab lecture material OR on material from the Lab Skills Manual.

The lab final is given during the last lab session.  It is based on the experiments, Lab Skills Manual
material and lab lecture material.  You may use your calculator and you lab notebook during
the lab final exam.

You are graded on the following:

Lab Quizzes:    25%
Lab Notebook  25%
Lab Final          50%
