Math 217 – Computer Lab Instructions and Policies
In this course, there will be several assigned computer labs which will correspond roughly to the sections we will be covering. We will be using the statistical software Minitab. Prior knowledge of Minitab is not required for completing these lab assignments.
Turning in Labs
- Labs must be turned in by the due date. Late work will not be accepted for any reason.
- Labs may be done in groups of up to 4 people – all students in the group will receive the same grade.
- Labs must submitted to your instructor by e-mail. You must include the name of all group members in the body of the email. Additionally, the header should say Math 217 – Lab n, where n represents the assignment number. The person submitting the email should cc all other members of the group.
- You must provide analysis of your results in addition to the pasted Minitab output.
How to set up your home computer for Minitab
- You can download minitab for your Windows home computer here. You can get a 30 day free trial or a 6 month loan for a modest fee. Unfortunately, Minitab only works on WIndows machines or Virtual Windows machines (like the computers in our lab).
- The computers in the labs S44, S42 and in the the Tutorial Center S43 all have Minitab if you need to work on the labs outside of class time.
Lab Policies
- Lab computers may only be used for doing or submitting the assignments. No e-mailing friends, instant messaging, playing games, downloading music/videos or other non-academic uses are permitted during lab times.
- No cell phone conversations are permitted in the lab. You can step outside for a phone conversation.
- The lab does not have a printer, all submissions are submitted by email.
- The labs may also have other available open hours.
