  • In question 2, they started correctly by trying to evaluate one one-sided limit,
    but they forgot to distribute a negative, causing an error which lead them to conclude that the question was much simpler than it actually was.
    They believe they deserve partial credit for correctly simplifying the denominator of the complex fraction,
    for correctly saying that the two-sided limit does not exist if a one-sided limit does not exist,
    and for correctly saying that the lack of a two-sided limit meant the function was not continuous.
    They underline those steps which are the counterpart of the grading key, and put an asterisk (*) next to them.
    
    
  • In question 3, they have almost all required parts of the solution,
    but forgot to justify their conclusion by citing the Squeeze Theorem.
    
    
  • In question 4, they did not show the limit laws as required,
    and only performed the final calculations that gave the limit.
    
    
  • In question 5, they did not state the continuity of cos x, 2 nor 2-sqrt(x),
    and they did not explain why x=4 was a point of discontinuity.
    They believe they deserve partial credit for correctly identifying where sqrt(x) is continuous,
    and where the whole function is continuous.
    They underline those steps which are the counterpart of the grading key, and put an asterisk (*) next to them.
    
    
  • Question 6 will be graded by me, so they did not make any marks themselves
    
    
  • In question 7, they did not properly justify why their calculation produced the correct answer,
    and they did not simplify the final inverse cosine value.
    They believe they deserve partial credit for correctly calculating the limit of the inner function,
    and for correctly applying the outer function to that limit.
    They underline those steps which are the counterpart of the grading key, and put an asterisk (*) next to them.
    
    
  • They underline all the other parts of their work which exactly match the required parts on the grading key,
    and write the points next to each of them in a circle.
    
  • They will come to office hours to defend their work for additional partial credit for the parts they marked with asterisks.

  • In question 4a, they confused stable and unstable, so all arrows on the phase line are drawn in the wrong directions.
    However, they believe they deserve partial credit for their phase portrait showing the general shape of solutions consistent with their phase line.
