Here are two old exams: exam I and exam II. They don't correspond directly to coverage in our classes this quarter, but will give you some examples of problems I tend to use on the second exam (some from the first and some from the second). Our exam 2 will probably cover through the beginning of chapter 5.)

Class 10, Wed/Thu May 6/7
We went over sections 4.1 to 4.3.
Chapter 3 homework will be due next Mon/Tue.

Chapter 3 Powerpoint questions that we've been doing in class.

Class 9, Mon/Tue May 4/5
We went over more from chapter 3 in the MW class.
In the TT class we will finish chapter 3 and work on problems from that chapter.
Your extra credit assignments are due on Mon. and Tues, of this week.

Class 8, Wed/Th Apr. 29/30
In the MW class we'll finish going over chapter 3. Ch. 3 HW will be due next Wed. for this class.
The TT class will need to turn in Ch. 3 HW on Thursday.
The TT class will meet at the De Anza Visual and Performing Arts Theatre to see The Daughters of Hypatia. MW students may attend for "extra credit" towards bringing up your first exam score, as explained in class and below. For either class, you must sign in to show you attended.

Important: the Theatre is on the opposite end of the campus from our classroom, in the orange building facing Stevens Creek Blvd. (On the De Anza campus map it is in the upper right corner, our class is in the middle left E3 building.) You can enter the Theatre from the side doors, and the front doors will open at 1 PM. Try to be on time, since we want to start as close to 1:30 PM as possible. The performance lasts one hour, and I expect students in Math 12 attending to stay for the 10 to 15 minutes of questions and answers immediately following the performance. For TT, we will not have more class time after the event. IMPORTANT: the Theatre is NOT the Flynt Center theater!

To get your extra credit (1/2 of points missed on exam 1), students in either Math 12 class must write answers to the 5 questions in the one page response form here. You must write in complete sentences, at least a paragraph for each question, use the back if that helps. You might want to refer to the questions on this discussion question form to give you ideas about what to write about. In addition, TT students must answer ONE of the following questions:
Chapter 1,  pg 84, problem 1
Chapter 2, pg 125, either problem 1 or 2
Chapter 3, pg 163, either problem 1,2, or 3
MW students who cannot attend the performance must work 3 problems in the list above: one from chapter 1, one from chapter 2, and one from chapter 3. Work the problem(s) thoroughly - and show work if you want the credit.

All students completing their assignment, which must be turned in on either next Monday or Tuesday, will receive 1/2 of the points you missed on the first exam.

Class 7, Mon/Tue Apr. 27/28, 2015
We went over the exam and also went over section 3.3 in more detail and introduced section 3.4.
On Thursday at 1:30 PM the dance company I co-direct is doing a performance of The Daughters of Hypatia: Circles of Mathematical Women, which celebrates mathematical women throughout history. See more info here.

Class 6, Wed/Thu Apr. 22/23, 2015
We had exam 1 and briefly introduced section 3.3

Class 5, Mon/Tue, April 20/21, 2015
We went over homework from chapter 2 and sections 3.1 and 3.2.
Here are the
Chapter 3.1 and 3.2 Powerpoint questions that we've been doing in class.

Please turn in chapter 2 homework following the first exam this week.

Class 4, Wed./Thu. April 17/18, 2015
We went over sections 2.3, 2.4, and 2.5.
We'll start chapter 3 next week.
Homework for chapter 2 is due next Wednesday or Thursday, depending on which day you take class!
First exam is Wednesday or Thursday of this week, Apr. 22 or 23. It is open book, open notes, calculator allowed.

Here are the chapter 1 review problems, due the third class session (either next Monday or Tuesday.)
By the way, I give pretty much the same class each Monday and Tuesday, or each Wednesday and Thursday, in case you are missing class and want to make up a missed class. However, right now the classes are both very crowded.

Class 3, Mon/Tue April 13/14, 2015
We went over chapter 1 homework and material from chapters 2.1, 2.2, and most of 2.3.

Class 2, Wed./Thu. April 8/9, 2015
We went over more of chapter 1, especially exponential functions.
Turn in chapter 1 review problems 1,5,9,... 4k+1,... on Mon/Tue.

Class 1, Mon/Tue April 6/7, 2014
We will go over material from chapter 1, especially linear functions.
