Math 1B: Here are the solution keys to use for grading Quiz 7.
Items marked (boxed, circled or underlined) in red/green/purple are the correct answers or steps you needed to show to
get credit.
(You do not automatically earn full credit for correct answers. You must also show correct work.)
The number of points for each item is next to the marked item.
You will pick up your ungraded quizzes on Tue Jun 8.
Do your grading using a contrasting color, so I can distinguish your original work from your grading.
Red, pink, orange, purple are OK.
Blue, black, pencil are not OK. 3 point service charge for using any of these 3.
Underline the parts of your work that match the marked work on the solution key,
and next to them, write the number of points you earned on each part.
If some step(s) of your algebra is (are) different from the key, but still correct,
put an asterisk * next to the points for that part.
Write the number of points you earned for each question in the SCORE: area to the right of that question.
Write your total score for the quiz in the SCORE: area on the upper left corner of the front side of the quiz, just beneath the date.
3 point service charge for not subtotalling or totalling the points.
If you have any questions about whether you should earn points for a different method, or for a single algebraic or
arithmetic error, you must talk to me no later than Wed Jun 9.
Your graded quizzes are due in class on Thu Jun 10. Absolutely no late quizzes will be accepted.
You may also submit your graded quiz early.

(preferably on a color printer) and bring it with you to class on Friday.
I will only be bringing a few copies to class myself, and they will be in
black and white, so they will not be as useful as if you print your own in color.

Here is a sample to show you what is required. Notice that in this sample,
She grades in red, so I can tell her grading apart from her original work.
She underlines the required parts of her solutions, and writes the points next to them.
In the first question, she didn't simplify the answer for (b)
This is an omission, so she did not give herself the points for that part.
In the second question, she forgot to write the "lim" part of L'Hopital's Rule
This is another omission, and she felt it was worth a 0.5 point deduction. She also put an asterisk (*) next to this to
indicate that this was mostly right, but that she recognized that it wasn't exactly the same as my solution.
In the fourth question, her technique is completely different from the solution, and it is hard to tell if her work and answer are correct
This is a significant difference from the solution, so she knows she will need to defend it to get credit. (In fact,
this student must come to me to get credit.) Before she comes to see me, perhaps she will enter her answers into her
calculator to determine if they are numerically equal to mine. This will help her defense.
In the fifth question, she incorrectly multiplies the two exponential expressions together
This is a major algebra mistake, and she recognizes that it makes her final answer too different from mine, and that there
is no point in trying to defend it. She does not give herself the points from her mistake onward.
She fills in the subtotal for each question except the one she must defend.
She will fill in the one she must defend later, and then she will fill in the total for the entire quiz.
